Hardball

Every once in a while I write about politics.
In Boise we have a famous senator, famous for being openly gay to everyone but himself. Yesterday Idaho’s junior republican senator, Mike Crapo (pronounced just the way it looks) said he is “stepping in to make sure no balls are dropped…” It seemed to be exactly the appropriate thing to say in this situation.

That's hilarious! Leave it to the politicians and their wordcrafting.

As an aside--and not at all as an intention to defend the senator--exactly for what did he get arrested? I don't think he actually had sex in public; I think it was becausse he "solicited" sex with some sort of coded signals.

I can't remember when a guy whistling at a girl on the street and sending very pointed signals about sex was arrested.

Is this a tisted freedom of speech trial?

According to the ACLU, tapping your feet and waving your hands is protected by the first amendment - even if the tapper/waver was trying to ask for something. It is also legal to approach people and ask them if they would like to have sex. True, it is not legal to have sex in a public restroom, but, at least on that occasion, Craig did not have sex in a public restroom.

There is a big difference between Berkeley and Boise.

For instance, in Berkeley, one with the name "Crapo" pronounces it not as it is spelled but as "Craypo" with a long "a" sound.

I wonder what the significance might be?

Emily,
That is how he pronounces his name, with a long "a." Just like in Berkeley.
